SemkovoBulgaria’s Rila mountains

Working from Semkovo

Make Coliving Semkovo your working base, with everyday forest walks and bigger outings between workdays.

The appeal, and the daily rhythm

A forest walk before work, a few concentrated hours, another loop before dinner: Semkovo makes that rhythm easy to imagine and pleasant to maintain. It suits people who actively want quiet and enjoy a resident community, with a little organisation around food and transport.

Coliving Semkovo is both your home and work base. Choose the apartment and shared workspace for the way you work: long calls, quiet concentration, a good chair or the company of other people at their desks. Give the practical details as much attention as the mountain view.

Make the desk work first

Ask for a recent connection test from the room or desk you will use, including upload speed and latency. Find out about shared bandwidth and backup arrangements for power or network outages. Test your mobile-data backup on arrival; coverage can differ between buildings.

Bring a headset and extension lead. During the first few days, try your normal calls, check heating and desk comfort, and learn which spaces are quiet. For a month, settle laundry, cleaning, kitchen equipment and shopping arrangements; for winter, establish road clearance and parking. Keeping those details simple leaves more attention for work and the mountain.

Join walks, shared meals and events at a pace that fits your work. A short outing after the final call is easier to sustain than a major expedition every afternoon. Share a grocery run, find a walking companion and put the longest hikes on days with no meetings.

Keep working days in Semkovo. Make the valley a proper break: village food, mineral water, old streets or an evening event, followed by the return to your apartment.

Events worth a valley excursion

Bansko Nomad Fest is scheduled for 20–27 June 2027, a reason to plan a valley excursion during a longer Coliving stay. Arrange attendance and transport together, particularly for evening events.

Bansko Jazz Festival brings another summer draw. Set aside an evening once the next programme is announced, choose a meal nearby and book a driver back to Semkovo. Festival dates change each year.

A longer stay

Bulgaria is in Schengen. For visitors covered by the usual short-stay rule, 90 days in any 180-day period are shared across the Schengen area. Longer stays and work arrangements depend on citizenship and residence status; settle the relevant visa, residence and tax questions with the Bulgarian consulate before committing to an extended stay.

Spend locally as well as at the supermarket. A village meal, a knowledgeable guide or a shared driver adds something to the visit and helps connect a long stay with the surrounding area. Ordinary courtesy goes a long way in places where tourism is only one part of daily life.
