Belitsa also has **Brego–Skara**, **Getsata**, **Pri Niki fast food** and **Restaurant Semkovo** — despite its name, the last is in **Belitsa town**. For a short stay, one Belitsa lunch, one village meal and one Bansko evening give a good spread. On a longer visit, let shopping, pools and sightseeing decide where you eat. Always keep a complete supper at Coliving for the day when coming home is the best plan.

## Local dishes

Look beyond grills. Around Belitsa, ask about **shupla**, **mesenitsa**, **zelnik**, homemade **yufka**, bean dishes and **oshav**, made from dried fruit. Each village and household has its own strengths; a host's favourite often makes a better choice than a long menu order.

Bansko's cold-weather dishes are substantial: **kapama** brings sauerkraut and meats together in a slow-cooked pot; **chomlek** is another long-cooked meat dish; **katino meze** and the cured sausage **Banski starets** also belong on the list. Ask about portions and advance preparation before ordering a dish intended to feed a table.

Vegetarians should ask whether beans, soups and vegetables contain meat stock or lard. Vegans also need to specify cheese, yoghurt, eggs and butter. Carry a written Bulgarian explanation for serious allergies and speak to whoever prepares the food.
